A new material that heat from the sun

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) believe that such scenes will be possible in the near future thanks to his latest invention: a transparent polymer that captures solar energy and stores it for later use. Unlike existing technologies, not transforms said energy into electricity, but that retains a stable molecular configuration for extended periods of time, so that can be reused as it is by a chemical reaction when necessary.

As MIT researchers explain in the journal Advanced Energy Materials, previously only it had managed to store solar heat that way in liquid compounds. The new polymer able to do is ultra-thin and transparent, so you can discreetly integrate textiles or glass, for example, and raise its temperature to 20 degrees Celsius.
The key to this scientific advance are the molecules of a material (called azobenzenes) that are loaded when they receive solar energy and return to their original state with a simple stimulus as temperature, light or electricity, generating heat in the process. For now, experts from MIT are trying to solve problems such as transparency of the polymer (still have a slightly yellow) and optimizing its ability to radiate heat.
